Used Book Donation Guidelines

The North Wales Area Library raises funds through the sale of donated used books. These books are available daily on our library shelves and are featured at our Used Book Sales, which occur twice a year. The success of these sales depends on the generosity of our community, including those who donate books, volunteer their time for sorting and organizing, and purchase the items. All proceeds from these sales benefit the library.

Girl with Bookshelves

We are accepting donations for our upcoming Spring Book Sale in May starting on March 1st!
Please make sure you read the guidelines on what we can accept!

We accept gently used:

- Hardback and paperback books (fiction and nonfiction)

- Children's books

- DVDs

- Puzzles

Please bring donations to the Library’s circulation desk. If you would like a tax deduction letter, ask for the form when you make your donation.

Due to limited storage space and the challenges of re-selling certain items, we cannot accept all donations.

Specifically, we cannot accept:

- Books with damaged spines, water damage, mold/mildew, torn covers or pages, highlighted text, or markings (except signed or inscribed)

- ARCs (Advanced Readers Copies/Review Copies)

- Encyclopedias

- Reference books older than 3 years

- Computer books or manuals older than 1 year

- Magazines (including National Geographic and American Heritage)

- Reader’s Digest Condensed Books

- Textbooks

- Bulk packs or other bound study materials

- Video cassette tapes or cassette tapes

- Vinyl records

- CDs

Please follow these guidelines to help us manage donations efficiently. Unacceptable materials must be discarded at the library’s expense.

Occasionally, personal items such as bookmarks, photographs, or news clippings are found in donated books. We try to keep photographs for a reasonable period in case the owner comes forward, but we cannot track down donors for other personal items.
