Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center (CHOC) - Homelessness

The Coordinated Homeless Outreach Center, the only year-round, 24/7, emergency housing service for single adults experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County, is a partnership between Montgomery County’s Office of Behavioral Health and Resources for Human Development. CHOC serves homeless adult men and women in Montgomery County. CHOC’s two wings include a day center where clients can meet with a caseworker, receive their mail, wash their clothes, apply for benefits, or attend group meetings; the smaller wing is a 50- to 80-bed overnight shelter. In addition to emergency shelter, CHOC provides street outreach, service counseling, transportation, rapid rehousing, meals, clothing, life skills and benefits counseling.

VITA Tax Assistance at Temple University - Taxes

VITA is a nationwide organization regulated by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that offers free tax help to people who make less than $56,844 per year. Since 2008, students, faculty, and alumni of the Fox School’s Department of Accounting have assisted low-income members of the Philadelphia community by filing their income-tax returns for free through Temple University’s VITA program, based on Temple’s Ambler Campus. Due to the Coronavirus, they are running the VITA program virtually this year. Clients will, however, have the opportunity to interact with the preparers and reviewers via Zoom or by telephone.
